For this design project I decided to look at a industrial designer who is at the top of innovating technology, namely, James Dyson. His work has changed the efficiency and convince to the majority of people around the world and has created a company which strive to create a more technologically advanced world.
My presentation speaks of both his early life, how Dyson came to be and what it strives for. Below is a link to my presentation, as well as some of the interesting facts not included in the presentation.
-Excelled at school at long distance running and he said “it was because I had more determination, I learnt determination from it
-Studied at royal college of Art in London
-James Dyson foundation helped support design and engineering education in Uk, US and Japa. Inspiring people and teaching them to make mistakes. 2014 £8million was donated to Cambridge for a technology hub. Gave 12m to imperial college london to purchase a iconic post office to create a dyson build of design.
-1770 ball barrow was his first invention, featuring on BBC’s tomorrow’s world television programme, did this because often on the farm where he grew up the mud would stick to the metal either side of the wheel
-He used his wife’s art teacher salary to create roughly 5,100 prototypes but wouldn’t be sold in the Uk because would disrupt market for dust bags
-But sold for equivalent of £2000 taking up to 12 months to sell
-Cyclonic seperation is separating particles from air, gas or liquid without using filters. They have to use vortex seperation.
-Set up in 1993 Wiltishire, England
-Sued Hoover Uk for copying triple vortex with no dust bag
-2006 dyson air blade which is very common and is useful as uses considerable less amounts of energy and faster drying
-Speaks of his desire for young graduates as “they aren’t scared of failure”. fresh ideas ad use lean engineering
-Use 2bn of his own money to launch the new electric car, with a tame of 400 at the moment
